I' a S.African staying in New Zealand for the last 3 and half years. And it is great seeing the work been done by some people. Wish I could help you, especially with finance assistance. May be one day. But keep up the great work !!!!

Also on another doco. show last year about the "tenor of Hermanus" from our so called disadvantage communities. It is not in vain. You are changing peoples life, i.e. the youth for a better future.

Hi Mario

Thanks for the newsletter. I sit here and think 'what a mess', 'what a waste' , 'what a difference from my life and that of my own children' and 'what can I do with this?'

I will attach it to my quarterly customer newsletter to show them where the 'direct to charity' component built into their purchases is headed.
I will make this the feature in trying to encouraging them to buy our products over anothers - especially at Xmas. I am a small business but it all adds up.

In every struggling community it will take local individuals, like Mario, who know what the answers are and who work hard to engage supporters, to make a difference.

And thank you Mario for this newsletter in particular. When I woke up this morning I was thinking - "do I have to go to work today?" Now I am full of plans and enthusisam.

Kind regards
Pamela

Hi Mario,

Thank you very much for the newsletter.

It was good to see all the good things that are happening in the area and all the wonderful things that you people are so selflessly doing.

I was just very sad to read about your play parks that were underdeveloped and not maintained by the government. I believe that we should all stop expecting or relying on others – whether it is government or anybody else for that matter – to maintain stuff that we have. We often forget to be thankful for what we have and to really make an effort to look after those things.

There is a very old Afrikaans expression that goes: ‘ Erfgeld is swerfgeld’ which literally means money that one does not earn is money that is easily spent. That however can be said for anything that one receives from others, those things seem to valued much less than the things one has to work hard for. That appears to be one of those absurd contradictions of the human makeup. I have often wondered whether that has anything to do with pride, or the lack thereof. Is it not always the case that when one does something worthwhile look at the result, once it’s done, that the sense of accomplishment makes one proud of oneself, more so that when others do or give it to you? By engaging the children when you repaired the fence is a sterling example: I am sure that the children will think twice before jumping over the fence and breaking it as well as the positive follow-on that they will also discourage others to do it. I believe that this was a very basic yet essential lesson about life and respect that you gave them there.

Thank you for the fantastic work you are doing.

Cheerfully yours
Hannes

Today is the 16 September 2010, and i have just watched "mario and the rude boys"..my heart really went out to all these young kids who want to make a difference. especially to Mario who has created such an amazing organisation.i myself know how it feels to want to help others who have a drug and gangsterism problem as i have had it in my own family, trying to keep them away from all the bad influences. till today i still work at keeping my little cousins away from the bad but still have that fear in me that they going to turn the wrong way... i really wish that i could volunteer to help you guys in any way, i am unfortunately so far away im all the way in johannesburg finishing oiff my teaching degree. but i hope that soon i will be able to come over to cape town and help you guys out :)...i really love what you guys are doing and hope that one day i can be apart of it all as i enjoy soccer myself and i love working with students and teaching them new things and the importance of life and also my aim is to help young kids of today to have dreams and to teach them that they can achieve anything...
